P. 52
KEY FEATURES
• High emergence rates
• Easy to detect in crop because the parasitised scales are black
• Parasite pupae are xed within a ‘well’ on a card with the thickness of the card protecting them from physical damage in transit. This ensures top quality pupae from which the maximum number of parasites will emerge into the crop.

KEY FEATURES
• Superior Thrips control because it is able to predate upon both rst and second instar larvae
• Activity at a lower range of temperatures gives better establishment in cooler crops (12-18°C)
• Explosive population growth gives better recovery after cold environmental periods

BIOLOGICAL CONTROL
White y Control
There are two main types of white y. Greenhouse White y adults cluster towards the growing point of plants while larvae are oval in shape. Tobacco White y adults settle on older leaves,
so all stages can be found on any part of the plant. Larvae of the Tobacco White y tend to be smaller than the Greenhouse White y with a slightly pointed end.
• White ycausesdamagetocropsinmanyways.Bothadultsandlarvaesucksapfromtheplant weakening it. They also excrete excess sugars from the sap in the form of honeydew which
in term encourages the growth of sooty moulds. Adults can also transmit plant pathogenic viruses to the crop, which can cause distortion, yield loss or crop death
Encarline
Encarsia formosa
Encarline
biological control
agent contains the
hymenopterous
parasitic wasp,
Encarsia formosa.
It attacks by host feeding on younger white y larval stages and parasitizing in the third and fourth larval stage of the greenhouse white y, Trialeurodes vaporariorum.
Eretline
Eretmocerus eremicus
Eretline
biological control
agent contains the
hymenopterous
parasitic wasp,
Eretmocerus eremicus.
It attacks white y by host
feeding on younger larval stages and parasitizing the second larval stage
of greenhouse white y, Trialeurodes vaporariorum, and silverleaf/sweetpotato white y, Bemisia tabaci.
Montyline
Amblyseius montdorensis
Montyline
biological control
agent contains the
predatory mite,
Amblyseius
montdorensis. It is a predatory mite that feeds on many types of small arthropod prey and pollen. It is ideal for preventive control of white y and thrips in greenhouses.
Trapline
Trapline targets Greenhouse white y, Tobacco white y, Thrip, large and small Aphids and leaf miners on vegetables, ornamentals and berries using either sticky traps or Takitraps.
