Using Crop Protection
BHGS is a market leader in the supply of a wide range of proven plant protection products including chemicals, biopesticides, biological controls and stimulants to the horticultural industry.
Crop protection is changing to being based on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) as part of an Integrated Crop Management (ICM) programme.
The objective is to maintain pest (insect, fungal, weed and bacterial) population levels below that which would cause economic loss and keeping the levels of pesticides in the environment to a minimum.
It integrates several strategies including chemical, biological, environmental and cultural controls supported by decision making tools (i.e. use of temperature loggers for making choice of Nematodes for Vine Weevil control monitoring) to enable the best strategy for effective pest control decisions to be made.
The aim is also to reduce the use of chemical pesticides and manage resistance development in target pests to both pesticides, biological controls and stimulants.
Using unique modes of action, biopesticides are used in integrated management strategies along with traditional pesticides.
